                         Catfish Glass

All glass art produced by Catfish.  Following is Catfish's description of himself and his art in his own words:

How I got into glass craft:

When I was a younger man I was in Philadelphia for an extended time.  There I was working as an onsite technician for the production of the Universal Pictures movie “12 Monkeys”.  I befriended a college student majoring in glass art at the Philadelphia School of Arts.  He asked me to assist him with his glass work projects.  These projects involved creating glass art by placing a 6 feet metal tube into a vat of molten glass.  I assisted him as his “tool-guy” and throughout that time learned the process of creating glass art objects.  My interest in glass art increased and I began to study books pertaining to the history and technique of glass art.  I studied the molecular structure of glass as well.  I then decided to get a torch and keep it going.
Every day since I challenge myself.  Glass in its liquid state can be formed into anything you can imagine.  Thus, if you have any form in mind ask me about it and I am sure I can make it!

About the Products:

All the products I create are made from top quality european Pyrex Synex from Germany which is known for its meticulous quality formula.  Colored glass is made from the same material as clear glass but mixed with elemental metals such as gold, silver, cobalt and others.  Thus, the colors are inside the glass and will never fade.  Ass soon as a colored liquid such as tea is poured into the glass vessel the objects color will change.  The darker the liquid the more dramatic the change in color and brilliance.  Materials can be quite costly.  Whereas clear pyrex costs about $10,- per pound, red colored pyrex costs at least $65,- per pound.  Thus colored glass objects are much more expensive than clear ones.

Sectional Tea or Coffee Pot  with Cup

Producing this unique set involved fusing separate glass parts together to for a perfect unity.  This is a fully functioning percolator set.  The spiral sections are referred to as “switch back reversals” with detail highly sought after in the glass world.  The color used is called grape.  Also note the tight fit of cup and tube which will prevent any tea leaves or coffee grounds from “escaping”.

Price $ 300.00

Dragon Lounging in a Tree

This is a specially commissioned work to create a tea pot suitable for highly treasured tea with a traditional chinese theme.  Thus The red dragon symbolizing power, good luck and protection.  I used expensive red pyrex for this piece.  This teapot is fully functional.  A one of a kind collectors item.

Price: $ 350.00
